Custodian

Broken Coast Cannabis Ltd., a licensed producer of marijuana under the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR), is looking for a custodian to work at their Cowichan Valley production facility.

This role will be primarily responsible for the routine and general cleaning of the facility as well as production-related duties as time allows.

The successful candidate for this position will have:

  • The ability to work quickly, efficiently, and reliably
  • The ability to work at a repetitive task
  • The ability to follow protocol and fill out routine paperwork
  • A sense of urgency and the ability to respond to changing priorities as they arise
  • The ability to obtain security clearance under the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR) 

Previous experience in similar roles is an asset, though on the job training will be provided.

WHO WE ARE

Broken Coast LTD. is looking to add a full-time Quality Assurance Technician to work in the Quality department of our busy cannabis production facility. Broken Coast is a federally licensed producer of cannabis under the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR), located in Duncan, BC.

Successful applicants will have experience working in a regulated production environment, preferably in the area of food, pharmaceuticals, or the ACMPR. The position requires a high level of organization and attention to detail, as well as critical thinking, interpersonal communication, and a strong aptitude with computers.

Responsibilities

  • Collecting, reviewing, and filing facility documentation, for batch production and quality systems
  • Working with operations staff to correct documentation or address and document deficiencies
  • Prepare batches for final release and perform release procedures on batches once released
  • Working to review and validate documents in an electronic document management system
  • Perform floor inspections and self-audits as required
  • Inspect and release incoming materials
  • Prepare and track regulatory correspondence with local police, fire, and government authorities
  • Coordination of complaints and returned shipments with other departments
  • Contribute to the overall goals of the Quality department by contributing in project discussions, group troubleshooting, and assisting around the facility as needed

REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE

  • Previous experience working in a regulated production environment
  • Experience working in quality departments is an asset

Reporting to the General Manager, the Production Manager will be responsible for leading all manufacturing activities from crop harvest through final shipment to clients & customers.  This role will be accountable for driving, monitoring, and improving operational effectiveness via presence on the shop floor, KPIs, continuous improvement, and effective management of capital and human resources.

Key success factors for this position will include a floor-oriented approach, strong organization, and the ability to drive efficiency and change without compromising on team management and product quality.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Manage people, process, and equipment for all downstream manufacturing activities including harvest, processing/manufacturing, packaging, and shipment to final customers/clients.
  • Provide leadership, help build and motivate staff to achieve downstream objectives and production targets.
  • Meet all production scheduling & cost requirements via effective deployment of resources.
  • Interface with the grow team and head grower to ensure communication and activity linkage with all upstream activities, schedules, and changes.
  • Prepare work schedules and assign specific duties as required & ensure assignments are effectively communicated to the team.
  • Establish, measure, & monitor operational KPIs for communication to senior management by means of daily/weekly reports and dashboarding.
  • Ensure that production activities and finished product are compliant with both internal and regulated standards.
  • Work closely with planning & supply chain to ensure inventory in support of production is available in advance.
  • Foster and drive a continuous improvement culture and make recommendations on changes to team structure, process, and equipment.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance to improve workflow, identify & correct process gaps effectively and swiftly.
  • Generate business case justifications for process and equipment improvements as required.
  • Ensure all, processes and equipment adhere to established and regulated OHS requirements.
  • Lead safety culture through a demonstrated commitment to OHS and membership on the joint occupational health & safety committee.
  • Manage departmental budgets and provide performance reporting as required.
  • Determine resource needs and coordinate with HR on the hiring process
  • Perform other duties as may be required by senior management.

Experience, Education & Core Competencies

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in engineering, life sciences, or related discipline
  • Minimum 5-10 Years of experience managing productivity, efficiency & process improvement in a manufacturing setting (preferably GMP or pharmaceutical)
  • Minimum 3-5 years direct management experience including hiring and performance management
  • Previous experience managing manufacturing equipment lines
  • Experience authoring and reviewing technical documentation & SOPs
  • Familiarity with batch record and pharmaceutical processing requirements
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and team-building skills
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Experience with Lean methodologies an asset
  • A desire and ability to collaborate and succeed with others

Job Description:

Broken Coast Cannabis is hiring a regulatory affairs specialist to help prepare the application for our new facility in Lillooet, BC. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with the Quality Assurance department to write the procedures that will form the basis of application we submit to Health Canada. Once a license is issued, the regulatory affairs manager will work in conjunction with the Quality Assurance Manager to maintain the quality/regulatory system the company relies on to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

The ideal candidate would have experience dealing with government submissions, be familiar with working in a highly regulated environment, and be comfortable participating in audits performed by Health Canada or other quality departments.

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Reviewing the Cannabis Act regulations and preparing the ACMPR submission for a cultivation license.
  • Organizing and retaining documentation related to the license application and regulatory affairs in general.
  • Responding to inquiries from Health Canada following the submissions of the license application.
  • Develop, revise and gain approval for SOP ‘s (Standard Operating Procedures) for Supply Chain, Engineering, Logistics and Procurement.
  • Work remotely from home until the application has been approved and construction of facilities has been completed.
  • Report daily activities of the above to the President or designate

Experience, Education and Core Competencies:

  • BS in a technical discipline (Food, Chemical or Biological Sciences preferred)
  • 5+ years of hands on experience in a regulated industry (pharmaceutical and/or food manufacturing preferred).
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in English
  • Will need to be able to work autonomously and provide leadership to colleagues.
  • Expert and Current knowledge of the ACMPR, and Cannabis Regulations,.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice, HACCP, and Food Safety an asset.
  • Strong excel and computer skills.
